The Biloxi Art Association

 invites all artists of the region to participate in our
Festival of the Arts 2009
June 13 -14, 2009

Edgewater Mall, Biloxi, Mississippi

This event is an exhibition as well as juried competition.
Entry in our juried competition is not limited to those participating with a booth and we encourage any and all artists to join us.

Awards will be offered in each of the following categories:
  o Painting     
  o Photography   
  o Pottery  
  o Sculpture  
  o Other (including Jewelry, Printmaking, Glass or Wood)

Awards include:        $300 Edgewater Platinum Purchase Award
$200 Edgewater Gold Purchase Award

$100 Negrotto’s Silver Purchase Award
 $300 for Best of Show           $200 for Best of Category
$100 for Runner-up in each Category   
$50
for Honorable Mention in each Category

Purchase awarded work is bought by the award donor 
 

Standards and Guidelines
          please read carefully and include a signed copy with your application

Booth Fees: $30.00 for Biloxi Art Association members
  $50.00 for non-members  
   (includes one year single membership in BAA.
                          Couple membership is $10 more)
    Include 3 images representative of work to be displayed and one booth image
    Booth spaces will be approximately 10’ X 10’
    Booth fee includes submission of up to three works for consideration in our Juried competition
  $10.00 late fee
Juried Competition Fee:
  $20.00 for submission of up to 3 works in one category. Submission to multiple categories requires an additional application and fee.
Applicants accepted in the Sculpture, Pottery and
other 3 dimensional works must provide their own displays.

Deadline: June 1 Postmark
Late Applications may be accepted WITH LATE FEE but will not guarantee booth space.
Booth fees are non-refundable – No exceptions. 
If two or three persons share a booth, each person must be juried and a member of the BAA.


Image specifications 
 
Photos should measure 4” x 6”. Digital media may be submitted in *.jpg form on a properly formatted CD-ROM or through the online form. Files should be 300dpi resolution and no more than 900 pixels on the largest side. Photos must be representative of the work to be exhibited and sold at the festival. Please print your name and the corresponding number on the top of the back of your photos.
Photos may be used in promotional materials.

o Artists must be responsible for the original creation of all work they sell. 
Commercially manufactured items, commercial molds, patterns or kits are not acceptable. 
o Only original prints, properly signed, may be hung in the booth. Unframed commercial reproductions may be shown but must be clearly marked reproduction.
o You may not sell another person’s creation or work. All artists represented in a booth must be registered.
o Absolutely NO purchased items bought for resale may be displayed or sold.
o Booth size will be approximately 10’ x 10’ according to booth location within the mall. Some spaces will not be perfectly square.
o Canopies and Tents are not needed inside Edgewater Mall. Tables and displays should have rubber protection to avoiding marring mall floor.
o No break down before 6 p.m. on any day.  PLEASE NOTE: ALL SETUP MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE MALL OPERATING HOURS. Securing of Booths must not be made before 6pm on Saturday and BREAK DOWN MUST NOT OCCUR UNTIL AFTER 6PM ON SUNDAY.
o Security: The mall has 24-hour security; however, they cannot guarantee to safety of anything left unattended in the mall.  Space will be available for storage overnight if needed.   Items can be moved into storage between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and may be retrieved after 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
o Artists are required to register at the Registration Booth and pick up their packets prior to setting up.
o Artists will bear the responsibility for all setup and break down, and provide displays.
o Booths must be professional looking and tables should have covers that reach the ground.
o All signs must be professionally or computer generated and in good condition. 
o No undecorated boxes or non-display items should be visible during mall hours.
o Reasonable effort will be made to assign booth spaces to artists, with special needs being considered first.  Preferences will be given to those who have attended the festival before, and in the order that applications are received.
o Electricity is available at no extra charge. Please note on your application so your booth will be assigned near an outlet.  Artists must bring own extension cord and tape as a precaution. Electrical cords may NOT be used in customer traffic areas or walkways.   Note also that the mall has a lot of skylights that provide natural light.
o No tape may be used on mall fixtures, walls and / or floors (except to cover cords).
   
· Mississippi Sales Tax of 7% must be collected on all sales and turned in to the treasurer between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.  If you own a business you STILL have to turn in sales tax, and report your contribution with your quarterly payments. If you need an extra copy for your records we will have plenty.

Statement of Liability

In the event that the Biloxi Art Association is unable to hold the Festival of Art for any reason including governmental act, war, insurrection, acts of God, nature, or any other unforeseen reason of yours or ours, no refunds will be made since festival expenditures will have already been made.  There shall be no responsibility or liability on the part of the Biloxi Art Association or the Edgewater Mall for any losses, damages or theft at any time even though security will be provided. And will hold harmless the Biloxi Art Association and the Edgewater Mall of any and all personal injury or property damage claims and/or lawsuits arising out of or with respect to the use of any area of Edgewater Mall or its parking lot.
